Join the Earth Hour movement by turning off the lights
This year WWF Earth Hour will be celebrated for the eleventh time. Aalto University Campus & Real Estate, Aalto University and the Student Union encourage everyone to participate this Saturday in the worldwide climate event.
The worldwide climate event, WWF Earth Hour, is a great opportunity to lift the global concern of the climate to the center of attention. People all around the world switch off their indoor lights to express the global concern, that the planets future is vital to us.
“In the past few years, Earth Hour in Finland has drawn attention to the effects of changing eating habits and the impacts they have on the climate and the environment. With just a few changes in eating habits, we can significantly restrain climate change and biodiversity loss”, says Annukka Valkeapää, Conservation Specialist at WWF.
We will switch off all indoor lights for one hour on Saturday, 30 March 2018, at 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. on the Otaniemi campus, Maarintie 8, Otakaari 3, Otakaari 4 and Vuorimiehentie 1. Aalto Student Union will switch off all indoor lights in their central office in Otaniemi, and encouraging students to turn off the lights in their dormitories and rental flat. 1,5 million Finnish people participated in Earth Hour last year, by switching off the lights.
With Earth Hour, Aalto Campus & Real Estate wants to increase the awareness of our sustainable development efforts. We work to reduce the climate impact of our operations through measures such as lowering our consumption of electricity and raise the awareness of an ecological future. The change towards more sustainable development requires constant cooperation with the whole Community. We will continue to implement energy efficiency measures in 2019.
