New building Väre and Maarintie 13
Inventive architecture & academic pulse
Earthwork for the New building (Väre) and Maarintie 13 in the central campus area between Otakaari 1 and Tietotie 1 has begun.
The Väre building will be used by the Aalto University School of Arts and Design. The total floor area of the building will be approximately 33 000 gross square metres. In addition to Aalto University’s functions, Väre will contain the new Metro Centre and its commercial services. In addition to the university’s own operation, the centre will house shops, business facilities and services. The rental of the facilities has progressed on schedule, and more than 90% of the business facilities have already been rented out.
Väre is based on the winning entry by Verstas Architects in the architectural design competition in 2012–2013. The fresh and clear architectural character of the core campus building will enable flexible, interdisciplinary encounters and a variety of spatial arrangements.
At Maarintie 13 in the northern part of the large construction site, work has started on the new building for the School of Business (9000 brm2). The building should be completed in summer 2019.
