A Bloc, School of Business & Väre

The new campus complex including shopping center A Bloc, School of business, and the main building for School of Arts, Design and Architecture Väre, in the central campus area between Otakaari 1 and Tietotie 1 has been completed.

The campus complex is based on the winning entry by Verstas Architects in the architectural design competition in 2012–2013. The fresh and clear architectural character of the core campus building enables flexible, interdisciplinary encounters and a variety of spatial arrangements.

The total floor area of the building is approximately 47 500 gross square metres. In addition to Aalto University’s functions, the campus complex includes the new shopping center A Bloc and its commercial services. Located in the heart of the campus in the junction of public transport, A Bloc is a natural place for encounters offering café and restaurant services, shops and a new fitness center for the users and visitors of the campus.

The Väre building is the new home to all departments of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Väre is an energy A-rated building, and uses only renewable energy. The building is 90% self-sufficient in heating and cooling, and it has solar panels on its roof to generate electricity.

In the northern part of the building complex, work has been finished on the new building for the School of Business (9000 brm2) in the winter of 2018. Teaching will start in the new premises of the School of Business in February 2019.
