Raw Material Hub
Unique center of competence & close cooperation
The demolition and building work of the Raw Material Hub facility project has begun at Vuorimiehentie 2 in the Otaniemi campus area.
The project to develop a shared facility for Aalto University’s Department of Materials Science, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the Geological Survey of Finland will lead to significant research cooperation on inorganic materials.
The Raw Material Hub offers an excellent opportunity for intensifying cooperation and networking, as well as for creating a unique center of competence in utilizing streams of raw materials, among other things. The shared use of facilities, devices and research infrastructure is also cost-effective.
The planned operations at the Raw Material Hub include:
- mapping the origin and composition of different geomaterials
- modern research methods based on isotope geology and different imaging methods.
Demolition work takes place during summer 2018, and the construction work will start in the autumn and is expected to last until summer 2019. The developer is Aalto University Campus & Real Estate.
