Updated information on the effects of coronavirus on activities at Aalto University
Dear Aalto community member,
In accordance with the guidelines given by the Finnish Government, Aalto University pauses all contact teaching. Our facilities are not available for teaching at least until 13 April 2020. Based on our previous guidelines, employees are now expected to work remotely.
Therefore, also the buildings in which the University operates will be closed from 17 March to 13 April 2020 for teaching. The premises leased by the University to outside parties can be used for working at least for the time being. Tenants have access to the buildings with access cards. Exceptions are A Bloc (Otaniementie 12), and Metallimiehenkuja 10, which are still open. In A Bloc, doors to the university side have been closed. In addition, the Terveystalo part of Maarintalo (Sähkömiehentie 3) and Valimo (Metallimiehenkuja 2), and the Restaurant Fat Lizard part of Tietotie 1 will remain open for the time being.
According to the Aalto instructions, ACRE’s employees are mainly working remotely, but can be reached normally. The basic property services, such as janitors, security, cleaning and maintenance, are still operating on campus. Security guards may ask people to show their Aalto University ID cards, tenants are asked to show their access cards. Outside campus guests may be required to prove their identity.
All events planned to take place on the campus are cancelled for the time being under the Emergency Powers Act. We strongly recommend avoiding events and meetings for more than 10 people on campus.
Research work will continue as remote work. However, the authority’s (AVI) guidelines state that the facilities used by the university for research, development and innovation can be used especially in critical areas of research.
Please pass this information on within your organization.
